Sauna   

Serenity is proud to offer the use of our brand new sauna room to our clients. Built of 100% cedar except for the ceramic tile floor, our sauna comfortably accommodates four sitting adults or two people lying down. The lava stones sued to heat the sauna can function dry or with a misting from a spray bottle we provide, so you can control the amount and intensity of the dry or moist heat, as you prefer.

We provide terry wraps and towels for your comfort during sauna sessions, using your choice of dry heat or misted stones.

Benefits of Sauna Use
People all over the world have learned the healthful benefits of sauna over the centuries.
The intense, prolonged heat of a sauna session induces an artificial “fever” in the user, which kills off low-level micro-organisms that thrive in the normal 98.6° body temperature environment. This enhances the strength and effectiveness of your immune system.
Sauna heat also stimulates the body to sweat, which releases toxins through the skin. Human skin is an effective organ of elimination, and this process has the effect of calming and relaxing the body.
As your body warms in the sauna, your muscles relax, making them more receptive to massage manipulation. This means that a brief 15-30 minute sauna visit before your massage appointment will allow your muscles to release more of their built-up tension. You'll feel that much more relaxed after your massage, increasing its value to your health and sense of well-being.
If you choose a sauna session before a body scrub, the change between the temperatures of the heated air and the shower water will invigorate and energize you for the rest of your day.

Cautions About Sauna Use
We are concerned with all aspects of your well-being, and for this reason, we must make you aware that people with certain health conditions may cause more harm than good by using the sauna. Because the heat causes your heart rate to increase, people with the following conditions are advised against using our sauna:
- Pregnant women
- Hypertension patients (high blood pressure)
- Anyone with known heart ailments
- Those suffering from roseacea, as the heat can cause flare-ups
Even healthy people with no known conditions should use common sense during sauna use. Most medical professionals advise against prolonging sauna sessions past 30 minutes. It is also wise to closely monitor your own personal physical reactions to a sauna session. While it is normal to experience a moderate reddening of the skin, noticeable sweating and a slightly elevated heartbeat, any of these reactions that seem extreme could be indicators of something amiss. If you experience light headedness, dizziness, overly rapid or difficult breathing, or any other condition that feels uncomfortable, pay attention to your body’s distress signals and leave the sauna. Everyone’s physiotomy is somewhat different, and what seems just fine for one person may be intolerable to another. The best advice is simply to pay attention and to know your own body, which is a good idea at any time.

Sauna Rules and Policies
All sauna use requires the knowledge of our staff to ensure cleanliness and privacy, so please be considerate and inform the front desk if you see the sauna available and wish to use it.
For the comfort of all our guests, Serenity does not pair strangers together in the sauna. If someone is using the sauna ahead of you, it is because they arranged an appointment at that time. Please respect their privacy and wait for them to finish their session before entering.
Book sauna sessions at least half an hour ahead so we can make sure it is clean and warm enough to give you its full benefit during your session.
To ensure your safety, we do not book single sessions for longer than 30 minutes at a time.

Sauna Rates
Use of our sauna is complimentary for guests already booked for another service. We highly recommend booking a session immediately preceding your massage or other bodywork appointment to derive the fullest possible benefits from both treatments.

For those wishing to use the sauna only, the $15.00 fee covers up to a half-hour of sauna, terry wraps, ice water and a locker for your street clothes and personal items while you enjoy your sauna relaxation.

Finnish Sauna
This ancient Scandinavian treatment is beneficial to the immune system, as a detoxifying measure, or to help relax your muscles prior to a massage. Not recommended for guests dealing with roseacea, high or low blood pressure issues, heart problems or pregnancy. Ask your doctor before sauna use if you have any of these concerns. Generally, because of the intensified heat and dry conditions inside the sauna, we suggest limiting sauna sessions to no longer than 30 minutes.
